Pilipino American Alliance Mission Statement

In the ongoing attempt to serve and interact with the Pilipino community, the Pilipino American Alliance stands to promote a network of social support through the encouragement of political struggle, academic excellence, and cultural awareness while celebrating cultural diversity.

The Pilipino American Alliance (PAA)’s objective is to promote and preserve the Filipino culture and heritage while encouraging cultural awareness and honoring cultural diversity. The PAA will encourage unity among UC Merced staff, faculty, student body, and maintain relationships with other universities/colleges and community organizations, such as the Central Valley Chapter of the Filipino American National Historical Society (F.A.N.H.S.).
_________

PAA was founded during Fall 2005 and became one of the first clubs of UC Merced. Before UC Merced opened its doors to the first Golden Bobcats, many students had already acknowledged an interest with creating an organization based on the Pilipino/Pilipino American culture. Starting as a social group, PAA has grown into an active group in and out of UC Merced since its establishment.

PAA has participated in/hosted: Valentine’s Day Singing Grams, Bobcat Day, Filipino Film Fest, Orientations, Experience UC Merced, our1st Annual Kababayan Experience, dances and performances with Hip-Hop Movement (HHM), Innovating Notions Through Ranges of Movement (INTRO) & Dance Coalition (D.Co), Asian Fest, Transfer Day, Inside UC Merced, F.A.N.H.S. Annual Picnic, Movie Nights, Lumpia Rolling Parties, Ohana’s Luau, One Sweet Date, Karaoke Night, The Gauntlet, community events, and more!!

We hope to create a network of connections, plan trips and conferences, attend Friendship Games (hosted by Cal State Fullerton), and to become involved with more issues concerning the Pilipino/Pilipino-American community.

PAA is not only a way to take part in creating history within a new university, but PAA is also a family that would like to help and support you grow as an individual and as a group. We would like to encourage that you do not have to be Filipino to join and we are open to anyone who wants to be apart of our on-campus family!

**PAA is for ANYONE who carries a learning spirit and desire to broaden their scope of the Pilipino/Pilipino-American culture!!**

So, join & come see what we are all about!

In the Spring of 2012 the Pilipino American Alliance was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Registered Club/Organization of the Year Award.
